Dear Editor,
My favorite desert is Texas White Sheet Cake from the Neon 57 in
Fowler, Kan. This is just one of the many delicious desserts that
they serve. We think that this would be a good recipe to put in
your magazine.

Lynne Zortman, owner of Neon 57, is happy to oblige. In addition
to the Texas White Sheet Cake, Zortman also makes from scratch a
black raspberry sour cream pie with black raspberries from her
garden; homemade cream puffs; Snicker cake; and peanut butter
cream pie. You can also order a variety of sandwiches on homemade
bread and a southern fried chicken salad. Her cheesy enchiladas
are a favorite special that pack the place at lunch time.
The Neon 57 sandwich and gift shop is at 102 E. 5th Street,
Fowler. The restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Stop in and ask to sit at the booth made out of a '57
Chevy!
Texas White Sheet Cake
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup water
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 eggs beaten
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
Frosting:
1 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 cup chopped nuts
Preparation:
In large saucepan, bring butter and water to boil. Remove from
heat; stir in flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, almond extract,
salt and baking soda until smooth. Pour into greased 15" x 10"
pan. Bake at 375 degrees 20 - 22 minutes. Cool 20 minutes.
Frosting:
Combine butter and milk in saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove
from heat; add powdered sugar and almond extract and mix well.
Stir in nuts. Pour on cake.
